Brooklyn Boheme

by soulbydapound

I got a chance to preview this movie and just wanted to hip everybody to it. Check it out whenever you get some free time. In my opinion every state, up incoming or popular city should have a documentary like this just to see the history and where it is today.

Brooklyn Boheme is a tribute to “Brooklyn’s equivalent of the Harlem renaissance” and to the neighborhood that provided that opportunity, Fort Greene. Fort Greene has produced some of New York’s most recognizable artists, actors, musicians, writers, and filmmakers such as Spike Lee, Chris Rock, and Rosie Perez. The documentary is written and directed by Fort Greene resident Nelson George who has seen Brooklyn evolve into what it is known for today, beautiful parks and gentrification. The film celebrates the artistic community that Fort Greene produced during the harsh times of crack epidemics, violence, and racial tension.

Neglect No More

by soulbydapound

The neglect period is over!

Being out school these days I realize being in-tune with what’s trill, finding a web designer and working on a clothing line is all apart of jogging life. Today is the return of my frequent posts, what I enjoy and such.

Lets start it with some head nod syndrome. Here are a few people I bump these days after a long day of work. Quality over radio play. Take time out and dig it.

Intalek – Being a big fan of Blu. When I first heard this cat the only thing that came to mind was “man this dude sounds like Blu but,  east coasting.’ He’s a 24-year-old from the huge melting pot of Hampton Roads sounds standing amongst the slightly altered, slightly indifferent genre that blends them all.

Here’s his album

Next up to bat OriginalEchoes out of Brooklyn dope is an understatement. Bringing back that jazzy era of Hip Hop these four cats bring heat lyrically. Their mixtape is dropping around the beginning of next year prep yourself for it!

Here’s a few more tracks

Flatbush Zombies – The East coast is making a strong come back just relax and wait for it to hit. While this duo out of Brooklyn drops some Thung Waffles in your ear. Beware the zombies!

Hailing from the birth place of it all Arnow. The Bronx has some heavy hitters ready to change the scenery of music. This trio reminds me of the mail man delivering in any weather.

Peep Their Site

Last but not least Shaolin Park. It’s kind of hard involving Kung Fu into hip hop and not mentioning Wu-Tang. Welcome to VA’s 36 chambers. This trio floats over average groups with loud packs and karate chops.

Free?

by soulbydapound

Who in their right or wrong mind would turn down any chance to see established and up incoming artist for free? Within the past 2 weeks I got a chance to see Theo London, Aloc Blacc, Childish Gambino and Kid Cudi. I tend to go to these shows alone this way I actually get to enjoy the music and can leave when I want to. Here are a few snaps I was about to take!

by soulofmischief

Alexander Wang featured a preview of his new flagship store. I really love the atmosphere, its seems really relaxing and natural, with some architectural flare. I know the ladies will be extremely estatic for this one, check out some of the pieces after the tab.

“She Wants That Old Thing Back”

by soulbydapound

Old school Hip Hop and Vintage Ralph Lauren how can you go wrong? I may have been born in 1989 and raised in the 90′s but everytime I throw on a Tribe record I feel like I was a 18 year old with a walkman on a graffiti covered train. I had to opportunity to visit Brooklyn Basement amd found a few gems and ideas for my new room up in Buffalo when school starts back.

The Roots of Our Reflection Eternal

by soulbydapound

Late Saturday night I received a text message stating The Roots and Talib Kweli would be doing a free concert at Prospect Park in Brooklyn Sunday July 11th. immediately I sent out text messages and posted it on Twitter. Usually when we attend these events the crowds are endless! Upon our late arrival we all had thoughts of jumping the police barricades and just get closer while everyone else was actually taking advantage of the 55 rookie police officers on guard. If you never seen a crowd erupt at one time mouthing words of some of the greatest mcees of all-time I suggest you go to a Roots or Talib Kweli concert sometime soon. Head nodding, hands waving side to side, and toe tapping to some dope wordsmiths to ever spit in the rap game.  There were no riots or anything of that nature just cool positive vibes on a nice summer night.

If we didn’t show how we were influnced by this concert then the night couldn’t be complete.
